NEW[s] for U

That's right guys, it's been just a little while since the new chairman has come and the school ADMIN team is planning a lot of things to give a good first impression during the inspection.
Some Things like "every class should be loaded with attractive charts" are being taken seriously.
The whole day is a waste, when you're doing nothing but making charts in school. School was more of a CHART WORKSHOP in the past two days.
The Director of our School ( my apologies if i've commited an error ) couldn't take it any longer when today's inspection got bust. Apparently an empty Lays wrapper was found near the entrance of the School itself, and that created more than half of the chaos today.
He entered many classes and started telling people about cleanliness and "MUCK". He was planning to ban the canteen itself as there was too much litter scattered around school. In that case Sir, wouldn't it be nice if the Book Store was banned? That way all the paper balls will vanish. Banning Bisleri Bottles was another issue. His entire talk was filled with bans.
It's a pity that one doesn't realise that bans aren't the solution to any problem.

Another thing. He expects us to keep extremely quiet during the inspection. What do you expect? If you choose to hold an inspection during the U.T's obviously there will be a lot of academic discussions going on, and i don't see anything wrong in that. [ correct me if im wrong].

And again, he spoke masses about the whole Lays incident. Are class 12 students the only consumers of Lays in School? His words were filled with Sarcasm as he called Class 12 Students role models. Well, the way he put up with the pressure sure showed us how to perform under pressure. Who's talking about role models now?

And the "no-movement outside class" rule. Come on, it's a school, not a military Boot Camp. There are bound to be instances where students need to move to different classes for certain reasons.

There are just so many more points I wish to cover, and I wish I could elaborate the above points a lot better, but time is a major problem as the UT's are going on. So I leave it here for today.

After today's school, I seriously felt that NCS Mumbai is merely an experiment of the Naval Education Society,Indian Navy.
After all, our school is just about 2 decades old. Probably they should look at other schools which were setup at least 50 years ago. Experience in such fields does count here.Learn from them instead.
NCS Mumbai is the only school I've known which changes it's regular school activities, time-table just for an inspection.

My Question is why? Can't a school run normally the way it's supposed to be. Why should an inspection interfere with the running of the school?

The gravity of the situation could be felt when they actually made a few classes clear the mess inside the School Premises. [Shramdaan]

That's all that Time Permits me to write.

UT's from Tomorrow

Hey,
It's confirmed. Teachers Day will be celebrated on 5th of September.*phew*
But before that is a major hurdle in our school-life, the unit tests which we all struggle to overcome.

A few people like me have lost half the battle already. We had no time to study this time, and even if we did, we've wasted it...bigtime.
At least I've learnt my lesson, and Dear God...please...I don't need to fail to learn the same lesson again.

Anyways, for all those who even got to go online, and for our currently offline viewers as well,
ALL THE BEST FOR THE UNIT TESTS!!!

Again, I'm sure before the first UT begins, the Principal will give us a lecture on CHEATING and it's CONSEQUENCES.
We've heard it so many times that we can even predict her dialogues for tomorrow.
Let's see if my prediction comes true tomorrow. [ hey...i'm even talking about my prediction for what comes in the UT tomorrow ]

Ok...i've been beating around the bush a bit too much now. What I basically wanted to say is that the blog MAY be inactive this week, because of the Unit Tests. But we don't feel bad either, because our viewer count decreases during UT's too.
So Best of Luck once again, and till then....ciao.

Teachers Day...or a Unit Test?

It seems that Class IV and V have their last day of their Unit Tests on the 5th of September. The Principal is said to have decided to have the Teachers Day postponed to 6th or 7th.
I can't comment much because I have limited knowledge on this issue so i'll confirm the news and then post again.

Investiture Ceremony - Head-Boy

Lemme warn you, this onez gonna be a long read....so brace yourself :)
I have the bad habit of orderliness. So, I start where I left all of you and proceed chronologically until we reach today's date....

After the Prefecotrial Interviews, the results were shrouded in mystery.Until, certian girls in Viji Ma'ams tuitions managed to wiggle out most of the Results from here. And as you are well aware of, the forest-fire-like spreading of News in NCS and NOFRA, we all knew "who-is-what".However, official proclaimation was still needed - we weren't 100% sure.

For three excruciating days, consecutively, we were assured that the Results would be announced in the morning Assembly.By the third day, we'd given up hopes.I mean - come on - after all this is NCS, nothing runs on time, why this then??

Eventually, precisely a week before the to-be Investiture Ceremony (yes, thhe date for the function was finalised even before the Office bearers were finalised!), Principal called for the chosen ones during long break. Our ideas of a school announcement went down the drains, but we mutely consented....

Once within the all-time AC Office, 50 of us were jam-packed.And we were made aware of our positions.Ecstasy could not be hidden by some, while I continued to ponder as to what was soooooooo pleasing in being given a "repsonsibility".

Practice sessions began in the green shed and we were gruelled by Mona Chhikara and Manju Mehta.Slow (DEAD!) - March and Oath taking was all that occupied our minds and long-breaks for a week.Missing Breaks, Legs paining, backs aching.....it all seemed JUST PERFECT!

Finally after, our last school practice, yesterday we assembled at MULLA AUDITORIUM at 8 am sharp. But obvious, practise started well past 9.15 am.We practised from 9.30 to 2.30 continuously. All this while, Principal and Mona Ma'am (MC for the function) skipped practising their parts - they were complacent and didn't read out their scripts....Mind you, they did make sure that the Head Boy and Head Girl read out their scripts in proper accord...Also, the Chairman appeared after 3 of our practises and casually asked for the Intro song to be changed. It has been "Auld Lang Syne" for ages. However, this year ligtning suddenly struck him that it is a farewell song.So we practised our entry all over again, with the (notoriously crass) Choir singing "Itni Shakti Hume Dena Daata" which is traditionally sung AFTER we are invested.Since the choir lived up to its expectation of being melodiously IMPAIRED, we practised again with the Instrumental. Finally, the entry and exit songs were fixed as Itni Shakti Instrumental" and "Showers of Blessings" respectively.

Then the day dawned.August the 18th.Again we were at Mulla at 8.30 am for our last 2 practices.Which we did, to my surprise, quite punctually and near-perfectly.The Choir bellowed "Asto Maa Sadgmaya" during the Lighting of the Lamp practise.Sounded sadder than a funeral procession to me...After putting up our House and School flags on poles meant for setting up tents (they were as long as your room's roof!!), we departed at 11.30.Only to report at 1 pm again by which time, the school students, teachers were already there.

We were handed out our badges (to be Pinnned BEFORE be were invested, weird!)made to stand in 2 wings of the Hall, out of sight, until Rear Admiral Anup Singh, Chief Guest, arrived.Once he was well settled, the function began.Principal coughed through her welcome note and we enjoyed it thourughly.

Our march was perfect. We formed on the stage.Head Boy and Girl took their oaths and later on introudced the rest of the Council. The Chief Guest was passing his time talking casually and asking silly questions to each one as he put on their sashes: "What is your name?"(Pay attention....The Head Boy just read it out you dud!)
"How tall are you?" (To which a Vice-captain replied 195.5 cms.....0.5 bhi kyo chhod diya, wo bhi jod deta!)
"Are you 6 feet one inch?"(Why? You are our new PT instructor or what??)
"Which House are you in?" (Hellllo...read the sash you're holding you nut....it says ANGRE captain!!) "Oh, Angre...is that the best House ?"(No, No...the most junglee one possible, I hate it sir....)
"Are you naughty? (Man! Come up with something original!!!)

After a long driven Question and I-wish-I-could-Answer-Him-back Session we marched out with Diyas aflame in our hands. Finally, we took our positions along the 2 walls and the Head Boy and House Captains managed to catch hold of their flags after a struggle with the standbyes who refused to hand us our flags!!

Then MOna Ma'amm flustered in announcing a certain awardees percentage as 72% instead of 92%....!!

Then came the part we all were praying for.The Chief Guest's speech. We prayed it was short (my legs were feeling like lead blocks!).But we were to be dismayed....he rambled about an essay he meesed up for his son in class 2 about COW."Gaaya Hamari Maata Hai, Hame Kuch Nahi Aata Hai......Lekin Hamari Maa Ka Naam Kucchh Aur Hai."Everyone laughed their best flase laughs.I was impressed. He talked abouut Character, Mother, Formal Education, Sports, Wellington, his 19 year old son, some Mrs. Saluja and his wife.....Everything we weren't interested in and Everything disconnected from each other. We wished the mike would jar as it did once......

God be thanked, he stopped. He was present a small Memento....which was truly SMALL.A tiny crest.Great.

Then All-Rise for Jana Gana Mana and proceed for tea. After everything - IT WAS DHAMAAL TIME.We went breserk clicking photos everywhere....in the hall, on the steps of Mulla, on the road.It is very difficult for me to tell you the aount of masti and fun we had - let the pictures speak (when they come)!!

And that's that.A day to remember for us and from tommorow our duties start. Before I end, let me introduce you to your PREFECTORIAL COUNCIL 2005-06.I don't have a list, but I'll try and Post as many of the 50 office-bearers I can from my memory.Excuse My Memory and Mistakes.

Investiture Ceremony

Hey Everyone,
Let me first Congratulate all those in the Prefectorial Council except myself ( how can I congratulate myself??? ).
The Investiture Ceremony was held today in Mulla Auditorium at 1400 Hrs.
Since my partner Tejas is now the Head-boy of our school, I leave it to him to write his views on the Investiture Ceremony. [along with the names of members of the Council...]

Basically I just wanted to tell the others that in case you've got any pictures of the Investiture Ceremony or know anybody who has them, give them to me. If they were taken from a Digital Camera, mail them to write2sanchit@gmail.com
If they were taken in a non-digital camera, give me those pictures for a few hours and I'll scan them on my PC and give them back.
Once most of the pictures are compiled, I'll post them here on the blog.

Independence Day!!!

Hey everyone, let me first wish all of you a very...
Happy 58th Independence Day!!!

Our Principal had mentioned that it is our national duty to be present today for Independence Day Celebrations. Yet many students gave it a miss so that they could prepare for the upcoming Unit Tests. This is really a sad situation, but what can you expect when there is so much cut-throat competition when it comes to academics? No matter how hard the principal tries, she won't be able to ensure 100% attendence on such important dates....unless of-course she "bribes" students with Marks...he he...

Anyway enough about the educational system, I'm going too much off-topic. Our School too had it's own way of celebrating Independence Day. The much-awaited Patriotic Singing Competition was held today and here's my personal view about it.

I had practically seen every house practice for the competition. Each House seemed capable to grab the first place but for some reason, the instruments, the beats and the voices just seemed to have lost their co-ordination. This was the same case with all the houses and according to me, the house that won, had made the least mistakes. And that was ANGRE which grabbed the Shield ( and you know what?? On the Shield was engraved...:"CRICKET SHIELD"...I realised that as I lifted it with Prachi ) but who cares what you get, as long as you win it for the house. All the male singers were "punished"(lol) to wear DHOTI'S...and I think that probably the attire made it easier for us to reach top-spot.

Then followed the speech of Cmde. Gidwani (my apologies in case i got the rank and name wrong) and thanks to background interference, the reactions of the seated students was rather amusing...However the Prefectorial Council seemed to do a good job in maintaining discipline today.
The Head Boy and Head Girl's presence as MC was also greatly appreciated.

So much for 15th August. Coming up now on 18th August is the Investiture Ceremony. Be sure to tune in to this Blog for the post on that

Pictionary Postponed.

First of All, Thanks to all our viewers for visiting this blog regularly ( 1000+ Visits ).This really encourages me and Tejas to keep up the good work.

The Inter-House Pictionary Contest [ or whatever it's called ] was cancelled today for a certain reason probably because priority was given to the Independence Day and Investiture Ceremony Practices. This week will be a bit strenous for the whole administrative team and that's why we are seeing so many changes this week.

Finally after months of planning, the computer lab is being tweaked. The whole laboratory is set to be connected in a local area network and the network should be up and running soon. That sure will bring a lot of advantages to both Teachers and Students...and I'll let you wonder what will prove advantageous to the student...

So far so good, things are going swell...The Prefectorial Council is trying to learn how to do the scout walk as of now (yes...scout walk is the actual word) and will practice in Mulla Auditorium from 16th August.

SCHOOL BLOG CROSSES 1000 MARK!!!

CLASS 12 PICNIC ON SEPTEMBER 6

Well, scroll down to two posts previous to this one- and add to it this information: The Picnic IS DEFINITELY GOING TO BE HELD.It is the date which is under speculation.Have my assurance, backed by Viji Ma'ams, that without doubt, We Will GO for a picnic , come what may.As of now, the only suitable time is around September 6th.

Patriotic Song Competition and Independence Day Function this Monday, the 15th.I think you'll be able to see the new Prefectorial Council in action.Chief Guest is going to be Commodore Gidwani. MC for the occasion will be Yours Truly, Head Boy (that is what I've been told to do, as of now!)

Pictionary to be held tomorrow. Results will be posted here. And as usual, all Saturdays working this month.

And yes, now I get my chance to reply to Sanchit's view in the previous post.Since I was very much a part of what has been blown out of proportion into a "BIG CHAOS", I think you all deserve to know the truth. And very simply, here it is:

After the results were announced Pooja Gidwani and Keka Mandal offered to resign from their posts (for whatever reasons). This led to a common spurt amongst students that the selection process, MIND YOU, I say "process" and not "Individual" was at fault.I would like to harp again and again and again until it is drilled into everyone that we are not fighting a personal war or trying to complain about A particular person's selection....

As the Principal pointed out to us, we have no right to question the Selection Panel. To which I politely replied and I repeat: We Are not questioning any one's appointment. We are merely putting forward our opinion about the abysmal and haphazard way people have been selected. We are not questioning any one's capabilities.....we are just syaing that when there are more worthy candidates, it is not right to practice favourism.

When the Principal, Teachers and School can go to lenghths to emphasise on "HONESTY", "DISCIPLINE", "TRUTH".....isn't it being highly hypocritic and dishonest to preach something and behind everyone's back carry out malpractices of selection.Come on, people, ITZ JUST A BADGE.....either you have what it takes or you don't......and if you don't, just too bad...accept it....Why the cheap politics? Why the emotioanl drama? Why the Desperation for the post? That IS OUR POINT.And not to question anyone's integrity.

I hope I do not have to clarify this again....as well as the doubt of whether or not hte Picnic is still on.Word of caution to people commenting to our posts: DO not post gossip or rumours as comments, Leads to unnecessary confusion.

Yours Truly.........

Prefectorial Council Results Declared

Although not publicly announced, the chosen members of the prefectorial board are aware of the results as they were disclosed today in the Principal's office. Since I don't have the complete list of the members, they will be posted up later.

However, the Principal seemed to be very serious about Discipline. So serious that she introduced a new post of "Discipline Captains" which will be assigned to two students from each house. That makes 8 more members to the existing prefectorial team totalling to a huge force of 50 students.
The Principal was very disappointed about the last-minute error in the sports-day last academic year and wants some drastic changes in discipline this year.
She has however, plans to revive the "elections" system of selecting students for the prefectorial council. This will probably come into existence after a year or two. Besides that the cut-off percentage for a student to be eligible to stand for any post will be 75%.

Today, there was a big chaos simply because some ( should I say many? ) students were against some people who were chosen to represent the prefectorial council.
At least I personally feel, that it is not our job to see who deserves the post or not. That is entirely the responsibility of the administrative board. Bringing our points to their notice is fine, but telling them over and over again is rather futile.
I wont comment further, because I may lack key information on such issues, and i don't want to give rise to a few more because of this.

More updates along with the list of Prefectorial Council Members will be posted up as soon as possible.

Class 12 Picnic...Postponed

Yes, there were rumours about it, but it's finally confirmed now. The Class 12 Picnic is postponed to post-Teachers Day for the following reasons:

11 Aug to 18 Aug : Investiture Ceremony and Independence day Practice
19 Aug to 29 Aug : Too close to Unit Tests
30 Aug to Sep 2 : 2nd Unit Tests
Sep 3 to Sep 5 : Teachers Day Practice

So it's confirmed that at least in the next few days, no picnic for class 12....not to forget our Farewell for our Maths teacher...that's going to be a bit hard to finalise too...

We all sincerely hope that our Picnic doesn't get further get postponed, because at this rate...class 12 will have a picnic....the next batch of class 12 that is....

CLASS 12TH REJOICE: PICNIC FINALISED!!!!

First things first: HAPPY FRIENDSHIP'S DAY to you.It all began with a "Friendship's Day" call....

One of my classmates called up to wish me for the day and in the talking process divulged the news that our ......PICNIC HAS BEEN FINALISED...... and we are going to (hold your breath)......ALIBAUG!!!Now, my friend told me that this was told by Viji Ma'am and that we'd be going before the 15th.i.e. next Monday. My only contribution was to, as everyone expected it from "me", get Permission for NOT going in school uniform.I agreed- i would try my best.

I spoke to Viji Ma'am.....and guess what?!?!She told me that NOTHING had been finalised and that as of now Principal had selected "HAMLA" over Alibaug.I immediately tested my influential skill :"Nooooo, Ma'am....NOT HAMLA".I continued to describe in much detail the advantages of going to ALibaug instead. It ended with Viji Ma'am's consent :"Ok Tejas, I'll do that.I'll surely speak to Principal Ma'am....you all can go to Alibaug".

Then I asked if we wre actually going within a week (before 15th).Answer was as expected -NO.She told me that on 15th was Independence Day Function, 17TH IS INVESTITURE .....and 29th is II UT.So, we'll be going between 17th and 29th.....MAYBE AROUND THE 19TH OF AUGUST.

Then came my last bit....NO SCHOOL UNIFORM.And if you know me well....you'll know the outcome.I SUCCEEDED......We Wont Be Wearing the Uniform!!!!

Showing off is one thing. But I think I worked my way into getting this thing planned..for all of us.So, guyz make sure each one of YOU turns up......for OUR LAST SCHOOL PICNIC ever....letz make it one hel-of-a-bash.

For those unacquainted to Alibaug....it is the most idyllic, beautiful tiny village set beside the sea-shore.Time seems to stop...and you can do anything, watching the sun rise and pop back into the sea....It is the perfect destination for a One-day trip.It is 2.5 Hourse Drive from Mumbai...So make sure you have enuf "DHAMAAL" on the journey!!I've been to Alibaug thrice....and if my word counts- take it-THE PLACE ROCKS!!

Everyone, get geared up for the trip.Any suggestions, do comment or contact me in school!!Farewell plans still running, Investiture practises to commence once Results are announced!
